Hey, sidebar, has anyone realized that our little GSA is not registered on the GSA network, which I believe is the red link to my left? I was gonna register us, but I figured I'd ask if we knew this and were purposefully not registered or something like that. Alright, just wanted to make sure.

After the crowds left the rally yesterday, Travaglini called Arline lsaacson (MGLPC Co-Chair) alone into his office to break it to her: He and Senate Minority leader Lees are sponsoring an amendment to replace the Travis amendment. It is a DOMA with civil union amendment, retroactive to May 17, 2006.
In the letter he prefaces to his colleagues: "Passing an unconstitutional statute cannot and will not prevent city and towns from issuing marriage licenses this May. Our only option to address the Court's two decisions is to amend the constitution."
Section 4 of this amendment reads:
"Persons of the same sex who married before the effective date of this Article shall be considered instead to have formed a civil union."
With a wave of the magic wand, our marriages are dissolved by constitutional fiat should this pass referendum on 2006.
Needless to say, this does not bode well for us tomorrow. And they are shutting down the Senate and Rep. office wings of the building to visitors tomorrow, effectively crippling our ability to lobby anyone on this. It's a bit Fascist. Also, the State House will be run like an airport. I.D. to get in, no one can leave and come back, controls everywhere.
Don't give up the fight. The amendment does not have the support of many conservatives like Travis who wish to deny us all rights.
Keep up the pitch and the volume. When the going gets tough, the tough have to get going.

Hey kids, just dropping you a little note to say that despite all this swift and careful planning,
the rally has been canceled. Apparently it was decided that since there are many senators who are still on the fence on the subject, a rally may not be to best way to slide votes. So instead there will be some sort of
activist seminars held in Lexington and possibly Boston in a sort of rally preperation for after the vote. I'll give you addresses and definate dates later.

Students Oppose the "Protection of Marriage" Amendment!
This coming Thursday, February 5, students from various Boston-area high schools will gather in front of the State House from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM to oppose Amendment H 3190, the so-called "Protection of Marriage Amendment." This rally will take place six days before the State Legislature is set to hold a hearing concerning the amendment.
We feel that Amendment H 3190, which would restrict marriage to "the union of one man and one woman", is unfair, inhumane, and an insult to same-sex partners who dedicate their lives to one another and ask only to be viewed with respect, dignity, and equality by society.
We, as students and young people, also feel that our unique perspective has not been heard often enough in discussions on this topic. We hope to bring together a broad coalition of students groups in the Boston area, and make our voices heard for equality.
